Schoolyard Bullying Prevention

The U.S. Department of Justice’s National School Safety Center gathered experts from around the world at Harvard University in Cambridge, Massachusetts to plan a response to the growing concern of adolescent aggression. The results of the unprecedented “Schoolyard Bullying Practicum” were phenomenal. Media coverage included a segment on ABC News’ “20/20”; radio coverage ranging from National Public Radio to “Tokyo Today”; and feature stories in Psychology Today, the New York Times, Washington Post and hundreds of other publications. Substantive products included the Emmy award-winning documentary “Set Straight on Bullies”; a prevention handbook for school administrators and staff; and new curriculum guidelines — all of which contributed to a movement to toughen student safety measures in schools throughout the nation.
